Live in Wellness: June Events

The month of June is named after the Roman goddess of marriage, Juno. It is no wonder that so many weddings occur during the month of June. As is such, Juniper Communities will be reminiscing about and celebrating weddings throughout the month. June is also the month with the longest daytime hours of the year in the northern hemisphere. Make the best of the extended days by celebrating wellness!

Can the choices you make really affect your health and wellness? Absolutely! Cancer, heart disease, lung disease, stroke and injury, the major causes of death and health problems, can all be prevented by choosing a healthy lifestyle. Simple changes like choosing not to smoke, seeing your doctor regularly, maintaining a healthy diet, exercising and getting enough sleep all contribute to longer life.

This month we finish our quarterly Alive In All Seasons theme of “Let Wellbeing Thrive” by engaging in activities focused on food and nutrition. Look for our consistently health snack and juice options at our hydration stations and dietitian presentations. Our H’Art and Soul of Dining Program will also be showcased as we implement the addition of more regional favorites – focusing on fresh and scratch made, our signature soups and muffin of the day as well as the new grill menu.

Our fabulous activity offerings this month include our Agriculture Discussion with Janae Herr former PA Dairy Princess on June 9th at 3:00 pm; a Wedding Customs presentation on June 13th at 3:30 pm; our “Salute to Flag Day” celebration on June 14th at 10:30 am; and our Father’s Day Classic Car Show and Milkshakes event on June 15th at 2:30 pm. Join us this month as we Live in Wellness.

Why a Giraffe?

At Juniper Village at Lebanon, we recently celebrated our exceptional
staff and residents with giraffe awards.  Since we are a relativley
new addition to the Juniper familiy, we thought it might be
appropriate to explain why the giraffe is part of our culture.  Lynne
Katzmann, pictured here as a giraffe, summed it up well when she came
to present the giraffe awards to the associates.  When you think of a
giraffe, you think of an animal with a long neck, who is taller than
all the other animals, and perhaps less commonly known, has an
unusually large heart.  So when we recognize associates with a giraffe
award, we are appreciating their tendency to stick their neck out for
our residents, to go above and beyond the call of duty, and to do it
all with a lot of love.

We also recognized our residents with their own giraffe awards,
recognizing them for what makes them unique and special.  Everyone was
feeling happy and proud.

May Flowers

It took us a couple tries, but with a little practice and
concentration, we did it.  A few simple folds and then a lot of
"fluffing" led to some beautiful tissue flowers.  We have been walking
throughout the garden waiting and watching for the May flowers that were
promised to us by all those April showers.  The buds are swelling
outside, but the flowers are already blooming inside!

Fashion Forward

We started with everyone's favorite, shopping!
Alfred Dunner's at the Hershey Outlets opened its doors to us and
allowed us to try on everything.  Look at these lovely ladies!
Once the models chose their favorite outfits, it was time to show them off.
We had so much fun walking the catwalk and accepting applause from the
crowd.  It was a great chance to feel beautiful and show off some
wonderful clothes.

Family, fun, and CANDY!

There was excitement in the air as we prepared for the Easter Egg Hunt
at Juniper Village at Lebanon.  Some residents filled the eggs with
candy while others hid them in the garden.  Still others decorated the
grounds with crepe paper and got snacks ready for the kids.  As soon
as children started arriving, we were all smiles!  It was so much fun
to watch the little ones hunt for eggs and to hear their excited
squeals when they found one.

We finished the day with sweet treats and a cuddle with a real Easter bunny.
