Rocking for a Cause

The Residents of Juniper Village spent a beautiful afternoon rocking in chairs on the front porch. However, it was for more than just fun. The Residents raised money for the Arthritis Association by committing to continuously "rock" for 3 hours. Last year we raised $35.00, but this year we more than doubled our donation by raising over $147.00. Thank you to all our families and friends for supporting us.

4 Square Gardens

There was a nice mix of residents from all areas of Juniper Village for our visit to the "4-Square Garden" at the Penn State Extension Office in Lebanon. The weather was great, too, as everyone walked leisurely around the small, but jam-packed garden, which features plants native to our area. It was designed and is maintained by a large group of Master Gardeners, who also volunteer to be tour guides. We were fortunate to have two couples on hand to explain the garden to us and answer our many questions. They even provided lemonade and homemade chocolate chip cookies at the end of our tour. It was a relaxing and enjoyable morning for all of us, and we came away with a new appreciation for the need to plant native plants, especially ones that will help the honey bee population.

Knit & Stitch

Juniper Village at Lebanon has many talented ladies. Every Monday at 10:00 am our ladies meet in The Club to work on the knitting, sewing and needlepoint. Our ladies enjoy chatting and sharing a snack while working on their projects. All are welcome to join in the fun on Monday Mornings, just don't forget to bring your yarn and thread.

Golf Balls Aren't Just For Golf

Licensed Massage Therapist, Sandra Unger, met with the Residents of Juniper Village at Lebanon to teach them the benefits of massage and relaxation. She also instructed Residents on the techniques of self massage using golf balls and marbles. Our Residents enjoyed it so much that they offered to give each other back massages using Sandra's massage devices.

Spread Your Joy: September Events

September signifies the end of summer with Labor Day celebrations and the Autumnal Equinox on the 23rd. In this last month of our “Stay Connected” series we aspire to connect with our friends and embrace the theme of Spread Your Joy.

The Mayo Clinic tells us that friends are good for your health. They can help you celebrate good times, provide support during bad times, prevent loneliness and give you a chance to offer needed companionship, too. Friends increase your sense of belonging and purpose, boost happiness, reduce stress, and improve your self-confidence and self-worth. Friends can also encourage you to increase healthy habits – it’s always better to walk, run, swim or exercise with a friend. And friends don’t always have to be of the human kind either! Several studies have shown that heart attack patients who have pets survive longer than those without.

Our fabulous activity offerings this month include our Grandparents’ Day Fair featuring entertainment and games plus music and delicious refreshments on September 3rd at 1:30 pm; our Patriot Day concert with Lee Moyer celebrating all things America on September 11th at 3:00 pm; our Joyful Noise performance illustrating the “Magic of Music” on September 12th at 6:00 pm; or our Introduction to Pottery workshop where we will make simple ceramic creations on September 24th at 2:00 pm.

Please look through our calendar and join us for any events that can help you stay connected, cultivate friendships and Spread Your Joy!
