The Way To Eat

Juniper Village at Lebanon spent the month of June focusing on healthy
aging with a special attention to the foods we eat.

The month started with our annual strawberry slicing for the Good
Samaritan Hospital Street Fair. Juniper Village Residents prepared
hundreds of strawberries for the Lebanon County Association of
Realtors' Strawberry Shortcake Booth.

We learned "The Way To Eat" from Maria Hollenbach. Maria is on a
crusade to change the way people eat. Based on her own dramatic
experiences of losing weight and changing her eating habits, she has
started a home-based business called Maria's Low-Carb, Sugar-Free
Kitchen. Maria gave us a live cooking demonstration featuring a few
of her special recipes. She prepared a greek pizza on a soy flour
crust and a strawberry shortcake made with zucchini muffins for us to
sample.

And we must not forget that June is National Dairy Month. The
Juniper Village Residents had a special visit from Dairy Princess,
Janae Herr. Janae grew up on a dairy farm and is a Junior at Penn
State majoring in Agriculture and Extension Education. She shared her
knowlege of the dairy industry as well as delicious milkshakes with
our Residents. What a great month full of fun and food.
